About This Course

The course consists of five modules. The main focus is on analyzis of main problems, challenges and trends in the global energy sector, dynamics and possible scenarios of its development. The efficiency of various methods of energy generation is debated. The physical and technical fundamentals of wind and solar energy as well as potential for the development of biogas technologies are discussed.

Learning Outcomes

Upon successful completion of the course the learner is expected to be able to:

LO1. Analyze main problems, challenges and trends in the global energy sector

LO2. Debate possible ways of transformation of the global energy system, possible scenarios of its development

LO3. Compare efficiency of various methods of energy generation

LO4. Explain the physical and technical fundamentals of alternative energy technologies

LO5. Assess the investment attractiveness of using autonomous combined energy plants

Expected Prior Knowledge

BSc degree in engineering related field is desired, but no strict prerequisites are required for the course.

Laureate and prize-winner of scientific conferences of young scientists and specialists.

Aleksandr Serovaiskii

Associate professor, Gubkin Russian State University Of Oil and Gas

Aleksandr Serovaiskii has defended the PhD thesis in 2018 at KTH Royal Institute of Technology, Stockholm, Sweden. The teaching disciplines are Theory and Methodology of Science, Mechanics and Molecular Physics, Electricity, Quantum physics. The scientific interests are the investigation of hydrocarbon systems behavior at extreme thermobaric conditions, physics and chemistry at extreme temperature and pressure. Dr. A.Serovaiskii is the author of more than 20 scientific papers.

    What is a flipped course?

    The flipped course includes learning activities to be executed before-class, in-class, and after class, where a part of workload for preparation for the in-class activities should be done individually. In-class activities include active learning elements in a group space, including case solving, discussions and similar. After class activities include assessments and assignments.

    What are the course requirements?

    How remote labs are going to look like?

    Students will get access to all the required software in the beginning of the course.
