This is a basic technique course about the essential theories and methods for inventive problem-solving in the process of products design and manufacturing. Based on the internationally famous innovative design theory -TRIZ, it systematically teaches the methods for problem discovery, problem analysis and creative problem solving in product design. It aims to enable the students to understand the general process of product conceptual design, grasp the basic concepts, principles, methods and tools of classical TRIZ, and initially have the capability to find, analyze and solve technical difficulties by using innovation theory.

About This Course

This is a basic technique course about the essential theories and methods for inventive problem-solving in the process of products design and manufacturing. Based on the internationally famous innovative design theory -TRIZ, it systematically teaches the methods for problem discovery, problem analysis and creative problem solving in product design. It aims to enable the students to understand the general process of product conceptual design, grasp the basic concepts, principles, methods and tools of classical TRIZ, and initially have the capability to find, analyze and solve technical difficulties by using innovation theory. In the process of training future senior engineering and technical talents, this course not only provides the basic theory essential to the students, but also fosters their capability to independently analyze and solve problems, improves their consciousness and ability of innovation and enhances their adaptability to product design and development work.

Learning outcomes

This course is focused on improving capability to find, analyze and solve technical difficulties by using innovation theory. The course learning outcomes are:

LO1. Identify and differentiate the concepts related to normal problem and innovation problem.

LO2. Identify and differentiate the concepts related to technical contradiction and physical contradiction.

LO3. Grasp the characteristics of innovation resources.

LO4. Learn methods of function analysis and trimming.

LO5. According to the discription of problem and function model, learn how to create a route couse analysis tree.

LO6. Learn how to analyze the substance-field model and solve it by standard solutions.
